Pinterest’s AI now turns beauty Pins into action plans

Pinterest has rolled out an AI feature called Beauty Guides that transforms visual inspiration Pins into actionable salon plans. The system interprets hair and nail images and generates corresponding professional terminology, cost estimates, appointment durations, and upkeep requirements.

The feature addresses a long-standing gap on visual discovery platforms: users often save aspirational images without knowing how to achieve the look or what it entails. By adding structured, practical metadata to Pins, Pinterest moves closer to becoming a transactional bridge between inspiration and real-world services.

For the broader AI product landscape, this is a focused application of multimodal understanding—extracting visual attributes from images and mapping them to domain-specific knowledge. It signals how platforms can leverage AI to add utility layers on top of existing content without rebuilding the core experience.

The likely impact is increased user engagement and session value, as users gain concrete next steps rather than passive inspiration. It may also create opportunities for Pinterest to partner with salons or booking platforms, though the company has not announced such integrations.
