Meta Superintelligence Lab Launches AI Image Generation Model Muse Image
Meta Superintelligence Lab launches its first self-developed AI image generation model, Muse Image. The model runs as an agent, collaborating with Muse Spark for multi-step planning. It supports text-to-image, image editing, text rendering, and QR code generation, ranking second on the Arena AI leaderboard. Muse Image provides over 30 AI effects for Instagram Stories. Daily creation is free, but exceeding limits requires a subscription.
IT Home reported on July 8 that Meta announced the launch of its new AI image generation model, Muse Image, on July 7 local time.
The model comes from Meta's AI-focused Meta Superintelligence Lab and is the first image generation model launched by the lab. It is now available for free via the Meta AI app and has simultaneously launched on Instagram and WhatsApp.
Muse Image works similarly to most AI image generation tools; users can describe their needs using simple conversational language, and the model will generate high-quality images.
Meta stated: "Ask it to simulate a picture of you standing in front of a historical landmark, cleanly erase distracting people from the background of a photo, or write a custom prompt to generate a usable QR code." Additionally, Muse Image can clearly render text within the image, allowing users to create operation guides or specific theme infographics.
To lower the usage threshold, Meta AI includes a preset prompt panel providing pre-made image prompts to inspire creativity, such as one-click restoration of old photos, seeing yourself with popular hairstyles, or transforming selfies into clay animation characters and 16-bit game hero images. After taking a photo, users can also let Meta AI redesign rooms using real products from the web or Facebook Marketplace to view spatial effects under different styles. IT Home learned that this feature is designed to integrate with Facebook Marketplace, Meta's second-hand furniture and grocery trading platform similar to Craigslist.
During the creation process, Muse Image collaborates with Muse Spark for multi-step behind-the-scenes planning, including layout arrangement, searching for real-time web information, and intelligently merging multiple visual references. Users can @mention Instagram accounts in the Meta AI app to incorporate public photos into image creation, a feature that can be turned off at any time. If modifications are needed, clicking the mark icon allows direct circling, sketching, or annotation editing on the image, and the AI remembers the full conversation context, facilitating continuous style adjustments or element additions/removals.
Besides image generation, Muse Image provides over 30 AI effects for Instagram Stories, including various customizable filters for modifying existing photos. Currently, the feature to generate images via direct conversation with Meta AI on WhatsApp has launched in some countries and regions, with more to follow. Daily creation is free, but exceeding a certain quota requires subscribing to Meta's paid plan. In the future, Muse Image will expand to Facebook, Messenger, and more interfaces of Instagram and WhatsApp. Advertisers will also be able to call the model via Advantage+ creative in the coming weeks.
Meta also revealed that another Muse Video video generation model is "already in development." Over the past year, Meta has released multiple AI applications and services, including the assistant Creator and Pocket, which can be used for video game programming. The company has previously been criticized by outsiders for a vague AI strategy, but it continues to expand AI infrastructure and invest heavily this year.
